Kefauver Aid Plot Charged in Democratic Race
The United Textile Workers of America warned the Democratic Party risks defeat if nominating a political unknown. In Chicago Kefauver campaign manager Gael Sullivan accused party bosses of a plan to deadlock the convention to crown Adlai Stevenson with Senator Richard Russell as vice president. Russell dismissed Sullivan's charges as baseless and machine politics.

Taft says he has about six hundred votes to win nomination
Taft asserted on June 21 that he has just about 603 or 604 votes toward the Republican nomination, noting 604 are needed on the first ballot. He suggested some may be held back. Eisenhower backers criticized the remark as ludicrous while Taft sought unity for a general election fight. He urged John Foster Dulles to draft a foreign policy plank acceptable to both camps and hinted at concessions over Texas delegates. Taft accused Eisenhower allies of steamroller tactics using state patronage in New Jersey and New York. Louisiana Taft supporters controlled the state central committee, awarding four of seven contested delegates. Action on the remaining three was delayed.
