Posthumous Four Freedoms Award to Adlai Stevenson

The Four Freedoms Award was presented posthumously to Adlai E. Stevenson at a Monday dinner attended by about 600 guests including UN ambassadors from 23 nations. W. Willard Wirtz, a former law partner, spoke alongside U.S. Ambassador Averell Harriman, noting Stevenson’s belief in freedom. The award honors global service to four Freedoms conceived by Roosevelt. Stevenson died of a heart attack in London on 14 1965.
