Board Votes Five Million to Courthouse
The County Board of Supervisors approved more than 5 million dollars next year to build the Long Beach Courthouse on Ocean Blvd between Chestnut and Magnolia Aves. The vote was 4 to 1 with support from Chace Bonelli Ford and Dorn. Hahn proposed splitting the project into two years. Bids open July 2. The project, designed by Heusel and Wing, will cost over 37.9 million. In a separate note, Knowland questioned Adams usefulness affecting Eisenhower policies.

Blonde Suspect Causes Scene At Station In Liquor Heist

Dad Kept Prisoner by Fence in Stayton Oregon
Police arrested Daniel George Cole a 60-year-old part-time preacher for keeping his 88-year-old father Eugene W. Cole captive inside a two-strand electric fence at the rear of the home. Deputies saw the elder man on the ground while the son kicked him and poured water on him. The father was hospitalized in fair condition. the younger Cole cited discipline.

Scientist Reed Reappears as Hollywood Park Groom
Albert Clark Reed, a Caltech scientist and WWII test pilot who vanished six years earlier, was found working as a groom at Hollywood Park in Inglewood. He used the alias Alfred C Reese and told reporters he left due to confusion. His wife Florfice had died in 1955, and Reed spoke with his son Timothy by phone before reuniting with his mother.
