FCC Refuses to Reverse Equal Air Time Ruling
The FCC stands by its four month old ruling that political candidates must receive equal time on radio and TV news. President Eisenhower asked Attorney General to review the situation and consider actions. White House and Hagerty note the president calls the matter ridiculous. Chicago stations allegedly give more time to major party candidates. Rogers’ report awaited to determine possible congressional action.

Democrats Challenge Ike to Go Before People
Democratic leaders urged President Eisenhower to take the issue to the public via television radio and other speeches. Senator Mansfield said Democrats would reply to the record in Congress while Johnson warned Republicans the public will learn the truth as September approaches. Dirksen and Morton countered that Eisenhower could rally support for foreign aid and labor bills and perhaps veto spending in a political clash over veto threats.
