Harey Walker manager of a market at 4400 Orange Ave and Michael J. Sweeney of 4480 Atlantic Ave coordinated to halt a check forgery gang. A man attempted to cash a $123.47 payroll check at Sweeney’s, was detained, and police arrested Allen Kirkendall, 41, of Los Angeles. Kirkendall admitted past forgeries and said he worked with three men from Los Angeles in a scheme similar to a January Vancouver, Washington case. another suspect, George Dewey Pitts Jr., had been jailed after confessing to cashing checks for three men.
