New tougher rules to control L A air traffic
The FAA studies a plan to impose strict terminal control around Los Angeles International Airport extending 25 miles east and 2 miles west. It would require instrument or see and be seen flying aircraft to maintain set altitudes and speeds under radar control with transponders and two way radios. The plan aims to reduce near misses and would apply radar advisories for separation. Final adoption could occur late this year after revisions.
