Reagan reform bills all defeated or put into limbo
Sacramento reports that Governor Reagan’s eight part political reform program collapsed in the Legislature. Only two measures stayed active as the Assembly Elections and Reapportionment Committee killed key bills on campaign contributions by labor and business and on public employee politicking during work hours. The committee did approve a bill to bar judges from financing other candidates and a measure to require expert advice on ballot pamphlets, while other Reagan reforms stalled or died.

Debates Set by Bagley Cory Over Controller Race
Sacramento AP reports Cory and Bagley agreed to face to face debates before the November section. The two candidates clash over spending limits under Prop 9 which caps campaign expenses at 427000 per candidate. Bagley accuses Cory of bias in proposing debates while arguing his own offer would reassure voters no one will overspend.
