Research Hunts Why Mosquitos Like Man
The Canadian Defense Research Board funds a two year study at Canadian universities to learn what makes humans attractive to mosquitoes. Entomologist Ian Lindsay says results will be reassessed after three and five years. Mosquitoes disrupt aircraft maintenance and current repellents last about four hours, with a need for longer protection. The work notes that mosquitoes are drawn to body odors and favor lighter skin tones, while Eskimos and Indians show notable immunity.
