Easy Win by Valiant in Cup Trials
In Stamford Connecticut on Wednesday Valiant defeated Intrepid in light winds during the fifth race of the aerial Cup preliminaries. The start was delayed five hours due to no wind and a large spectator fleet dwindled. Heritage skipped the race as skipper Charles F. Morgan sought more tuning time after a long Florida voyage. The race committee had disqualified Valiant from the fourth race Tuesday for a right-of-way violation, leaving Intrepid with three wins to Valiant's two as the series runs through Friday.
