Housing Authority Rejects Lease Talk with Carmelitos Union
Los Angeles County Housing Authority chief meets Carmelitos Tenants Union for second time in three months and rejects negotiating a new lease for the Carmelitos Housing Project in North Long Beach. Millar asserts the authority need not follow federal recommendations, while union cites a March 1968 HUD memorandum urging tenant participation and dignity. The union, claiming 400 members in the 700-unit development, pushes for lease changes despite authority stance.
