Brandt in Israel Tense Welcome With Nazi Past Echoes

Chancellor Willy Brandt arrived in Jerusalem for a symbolic visit as the first German leader in the Jewish state. About 40 youths protested outside Lod Airport. Golda Meir greeted him warmly as security tightened. Brandt stressed wartime Nazi persecution and hoped his visit would aid peace and Israel Germany ties. He would meet Meir, Eban, Sapir and Allon, with Ben Gurion to host a final session.

Financier Loeb Fined for Political Fund Violation

John L. Loeb, a 70 year old Wall Street financier from Loeb Rhoades & Co, is fined 3000 dollars for persuading nine employees to contribute to Hubert Humphrey’s 1972 presidential campaign and reimbursing them. He faces no prison term. the case marks the first prosecution under the 1972 campaign finance law.
