Caltech Study Links Glutamate to Brain Shutoffs

Scientists Explain Brain Blackouts From Glutamate Poison
Researchers describe brain regions that control consciousness as being turned off by excess glutamate. Other scientists link migraines with symptoms like partial vision loss and geometric hallucinations. Lab tests show blackouts lasting 15 to 30 minutes in rabbits and brief episodes in rats, while glutamate’s normal brain presence becomes poisonous at high levels, harming nerve cells.
