Magee Denied Right to Change Plea in Marin Kidnap Case
San Jose judge William Ingram denied Ruchell Magee permission to switch his plea from guilty to innocent. Magee, a San Quentin inmate, had pleaded guilty May 10 during pretrial hearings tied to the August 1970 Marin County Civic Center shootout that killed a judge and three others.

Contempt cited in extortion trial of C Arnhalt Smith
In San Diego Superior Court Judge Paul Eugene Overton cited financier C Arnhalt Smith for contempt after he repeatedly refused to answer questions in the Rob ert Daggett extortion case. Smith, 75, invoked the Fifth Amendment seven times, and faces a June 13 court appearance. Daggett is charged with offering to alter grand jury testimony in exchange for up to 20 million dollars in property. Smith, a Nixon associate and former United States National Bank president, did not answer questions about conversations with a Los Angeles tax attorney regarding Daggett brothers.

Girl questioned in murders near Salinas forest site
Monterey County detectives questioned a girl tied to the killings of three Salinas teens found murdered last Monday. The youths Wyatt Hanson 17 Patrick Hill 18 and Terri McCart 17 were discovered stabbed and bludgeoned at Arroyo Seco near Los Padres National Forest. Police say Miss McCart’s nude body may have been dumped into the Salinas River downstream.
