Connally tour opens in Caracas
John B. Connally began a first leg of a world mission for President Nixon with Caracas as the initial stop. The White House disclosed plans to visit South Vietnam and several nations in South America and Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Italy, and possibly Cambodia. He flew from Homestead AFB to Caracas and will return to Washington around July 9, while continuing talks with Nixon in Florida. The trip, announced after his resignation as Treasury secretary, fuels speculation about a future vice presidency amid Ford and Agnew discussions.
