The Western White House at San Clemente remains busy with federal officials during the roughly ten months when President Nixon is not in town. Conferees and staff maintain operations and strategy sessions away from the main residence.
UPI reports business plans to spend 81.4 billion on plant and equipment this year, a 7.8 percent rise, yet lower than a prior survey. The drop raises questions whether inflation or investment funds shortage drives the cutback. In Florida, Woody Woodruff saved a test pilot by paddling 300 yards on a surfboard after a plane crash off Vero Beach.
A stream of U S and federal officials from 12 to 70 members visited the San Clemente area across March to July. The visits included Nixon era agencies and cabinet members staying in nearby hotels for two day and one day conferences. The White House spokesman noted the President arranged tours of the grounds for the guests.
