Water injection lifts Long Beach land after subsidence stop

Refugee ship Contender's Long Beach visit highlights crowded evacuees

On its third of four refugee runs from Vietnam, the freighter Contender carried about 16,000 adults and many children under Captain Edward Flink. The ship endured heat scarred decks and staining residue from its humanitarian mission, while distilling 25 tons of water daily for evacuees.

Downtown Long Beach Transit Center Approved by Committee

Urban Affairs Transportation Committee approved concepts for a $64.4 million downtown Long Beach Transportation Center serving all transit modes and linked to a proposed fixed guideway.
