Reinhardt backs Muskie nomination for president
Democratic National Committeeman Stephen Reinhardt stated he supports Sen. Edmund Muskie of Maine for the 1972 Democratic presidential nomination. He predicted Muskie unifies the party and could beat Nixon, while noting only Mayor Sam Yorty of Los Angeles would be fully excluded from consideration. A nationwide poll also shows Muskie as the leading choice among 137 Democratic governors and leaders, with 77 naming him first.
