Action agency debuts to oversee federal volunteer programs
Senate cleared the way for a midnight debut of a new superagency named Action to oversee programs such as the Peace Corps and Visita. The House and Senate faced votes on resolutions to block or allow implementation as Nixon’s reorganization plan moves forward. The plan consolidates nearly a dozen programs with about 21,000 volunteers, aiming for broader efficiency though critics warn of program identity loss.
