Top Hollywood Park Jockey Hurt in Fight

Jockey Milo Valenzuela, 22, a leading rider at Hollywood Park, was injured in a bar attack while his friends Ray Maldonado and Joe Ballon were also struck by an unidentified assailant. Valenzuela, who rode Eddie Schmidt to a $25,000 feature win, was hospitalized after the incident. The attacker fled after the melee.

Balloonist soars to 96000 feet for record flight

Air Force test pilot Capt. J W Hittinger Jr rode a metal capsule attached to a large balloon to 96000 feet near Minnesota, beating the prior 76000 foot record by nearly four miles. Four vessels aground in fog near Sunset and Huntington Beach

Killed Eight Hurt in Hotel Blaze in Worcester

A fire at the five story Hotel Pleasant in Worcester Mass killed three people and seriously injured eight others.
