Half of New Cars Contain Defects
Washington reports a Automobile Club of Missouri study of 10,600 cars finds half of current models and 90 percent of five year old cars have dangerous defects. Safety related defects appear in 45 percent of cars driven 500 miles or less. Only 65 percent of repair work was correct upon reinspection. Senator Hart notes annual highway deaths exceed 53,000 with over 10,000 injuries daily. The study cites wheel alignment as most common defect, then brakes.
