Labor and School Bills OK Sought in House
Washington action expected to line up labor and education aid bills for House floor next Monday. The education bill would authorize 1.07 billion dollars in federal aid to education to develop brainpower, especially in science, to meet Soviet challenges. The panel favored four year scholarships and debated extending to six. A move to add a large school construction and teacher salary program is likely to be defeated. The Senate already passed a bill on employee pension and welfare plan reporting with penalties for false filings. The House may vote on both measures before adjournment.

Aid to Firefighters Dropped From Air
Pt-Air drops of equipment were made today to about 80 men battling smoke and wild canyon country to halt a mushrooming fire in the White River National Forest. Lacking mechanized equipment and helpless at night, the fire fighters have made little progress in fighting the two day-old blaze. Forest Supervisor Edward Mason said the terrain is so treacherous that the men are withdrawn at night to prevent their being trapped by the advancing flames. He estimated 150 acres of timber has been destroyed so far.
