Primeval Moon Rock Samples Hint At Lunar Crust Origins
CAPE KENNEDY Fla April Apollo 16 astronauts collected moon rocks that may trace to the original lunar crust. Dr Pal Gast of ANARA says up to 40 percent from the Descartes landing area contain aluminum and calcium rich material. A rare white rock called a catalytic orthosite suggests formation by shearing of primitive crystals. Scientists caution months of analysis to confirm these rocks belong to the moon crust.
