Building project turns Compton into a mini city for study
A six week summer program at Eb Sepundy Elementary School in Compton tests a city building technique. About two hundred elementary students from fourth to sixth grade create a scale model of a city near Watts to teach math science sociology and planning. Irene Thompson says the approach links language arts and projects, boosting student motivation and responsibility. The final week features a Styrofoam terrain model as students complete their state model.
