Enrollment tallies show public schools exceeding 20 000 with 15 525 students enrolled across elementary, junior and high schools plus City College day and evening classes. A gala 1679 shows, against last year’s 17 846, and another 1 000 plus is expected in the second six week session at City College liberal arts campus starting soon.
Long Beach harbor commissioners voted to curb travel by board members staff and city attorneys, restoring prior approval requirements for trips outside California. The move follows a request to approve travel by the city fire chief and Building and Safety manager who flew to New York to inspect the Queen Mary.
Wright said summer and enrichment courses are expanding across grade levels from elementary to college. More than 300 high school students with talent in math science or art attend honors classes. Summer school enrollment has risen steadily for five years across City Junior High and High School plus City College campuses.
