Moretti campaign funds set for governor bid
A fundraising letter claims Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti’s bid for the Democratic nomination for governor has already secured over $500,000. M Larry Lawrence, hotel executive and former Southern California Democratic Party chair, says many Assembly members and state senators will support Moretti, and outlines plans for a $500 political event in Los Angeles. He estimates California’s gubernatorial campaign could reach $3-$4 million, compares to $3.5 million spent in the prior year’s primary for George Deukmejian, and criticizes other Democratic candidates while praising Moretti’s qualifications. Lawrence says the letter was not cleared with Moretti.
