Manned Station to Be Launched in Orbit in 1972
Space Center Houston reports America will launch its first manned earth orbiting space station in 1972 to study the sun and stars from a telescope mounted on an unfueled third stage. An unmanned workshop will precede a 28 day three man crew mission with longer stays planned into 1972 and 1973 if funding remains. The Ocean of Storms is eyed as the site for the next lunar landing with possible rover exploration and multiple crews in coming years.

State Finance Chief Warns Of Another Prop 9 Threat
State Finance Director Caspar Weinberger warned that if the Legislature does not enact major tax reform this session, taxpayers could face another Proposition 9 as a result. He said an additional 18 to 322 million for education may be available in October, and noted the 1969-70 budget already allocates 120 million for educational aid. He urged reform to guarantee a residential tax reduction. He criticized other proposals for raising taxes and promoted Reagan’s plan to shift the burden toward taxes tied to ability to pay.
