Tax Cut Seen If Valuations Lower School Tax Rate
Los Angeles County property assessments may trim the Long Beach Unified School District tax rate of 2.78 dollars per 100 of valuation. The board approved a record budget of 34.705 million dollars for 1958-59, with public hearings set for August 4. Rising enrollments and higher salaries drive the nearly four million dollar increase, though the net local tax take rises from 15.276 million to 17.507 million dollars. A boundary change protest by Mrs. Earl Jones ties up Hoover Junior High attendance, while life events include the death of Fausteen Potts and a memorial for 17 years. The district plans to study effects of valuation changes and respond later.
