Hornet's Men Cheer Landing on Moon at Sea Rescue Site
Sailors aboard the USS Hornet cheered the Apollo 11 moon landing after hearing a VOA relay from Houston. The Long Beach carrier neared the recovery area about 1,040 miles southwest of Honolulu as it prepared to retrieve the astronauts. Undersea mountains were found nearby with seven peaks named Apollo 11, Hornet, and the three astronauts. NASA officials planned a final practice recovery flight. A Kenya poll found 3 of 10 Kenyans unaware of the moon mission.
