Rugged training tests Navy river patrols in Vietnam era
U.S. Navy river patrol crews undergo grueling training at Mare Island and Suisun Slough to police Mekong waterways. Lt Roy Boehm and Capt. C R Johnson oversee recruits who learn to react in two seconds, face ambushes, and conduct river assault missions as part of the Mobile Riverine Force. More than 1,000 sailors trained in Suisun Slough now serve in Vietnam.
