Iraqi Colonel Stages Polite Coup in London
An Iraqi colonel in London ousted the ambassador and top aides and proclaimed himself temporary head of the Iraqi mission. He claimed no alignment with Communists, described Iraqi nationalists, and said Baghdad would maintain ties with the West while planning oil nationalization. He said instructions came by telephone from Brig. Abdul Karim Kassim, premier of the new regime.
