Standard Oil says 1974 fuel oil commitments lock in supply
Standard Oil of California said it only recently learned that California electric utilities would need large fuel oil supplies to avoid winter blackouts. All its fuel oil for 1974 is now committed. Southern California Gas said it could provide under 50 percent of industrial demand in 1976 and nothing for electric companies, forcing further fuel oil substitution by utilities including Southern California Edison, Los Angeles Dept of Water and Power, San Diego Gas and Electric, and the cities of Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena.

Moretti calls for probe into California oil industry practices
Assembly Speaker Bob Moretti urged Attorney General Evelle Younger to investigate oil industry trade practices in California. He cited OH and Gas Journal data showing volatile gasoline pricing across Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco in 1971 and 1972 and urged action as federal probes unfold. He suggested major oil company price coordination and pressed state agencies to protect the public amid inflation.
