State oil and gas yield down for 4th year
SAGRAMENO UP T Oil production dropped by 1 per cent and gas production declined by 8 per cent last year in California, continuing a four year downward trend. State oil and gas supervisor John F. Matthews Jr. traced the decline to a 1969 offshore moratorium after the Santa Barbara Channel blowout. He noted that since 1988 oil output fell 19 per cent and gas output 24 per cent, stressing that new reserves must be found to meet future energy needs.
