Notable social mix of weddings and feminist debate in Rio
Vernands Bunker Gentil and Esworth Baker wed in Rio de Janeiro while Falkenburg, daughter of ex Wimbledon champion Bob Falkenburg, ties the knot. Separately, a London divorcee court judge weds a divorcee after many prior marriages. Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan spar over feminist ideology, and Clifford Irving finds a publisher for his faux autobiography with Grove Press set to issue What REALLY Happened despite his 24 year prison term.

In Sacramento Senate hearings bills on Gov. Reagan appointees to law and order posts drew GOP resistance. Sen. Richardson urged splitting the reappointments of Curtis Lynam to the Adult Authority and Allan Breed to lead the California Youth Authority Board, labeling Lynam overly lenient and questioning Breed’s qualifications amid concerns over juvenile crime policies. A separate Beirut report notes a bomb at the Palestine Research Center injuring director Dr. Raif Sayegha and damaging facilities.
