New Skipper Named for USS Long Beach
Washington Capt Kenneth C Wallace 48 will take command of the nuclear powered guided missile cruiser USS Long Beach next month, relieving Capt Frank Hy Price on Aug 23. Wallace a 1942 Naval Academy graduate served in nine Pacific campaigns in World War II and commanded the Observation Island after Polaris tests. Two gunmen robbed the Dixie Farm Market on Telegraph Road in Pico Rivera late Sunday. They forced the sign manager Kerneth Lee Watt, 28, to lead them to the office and fled with an undetermined cash amount. Watt told Norwalk deputies the men were about 30, unmasked, and armed with pistols.

Unusual Harbor Cannon Accident Injures Man
David Alexander Snary, 45, is recovering after a cannon on a yacht deck fired at point blank range striking his chest and right arm. The weapon, a foot long wooden wheeled model, stood at San Pedro police station as evidence.
