L A Awards Mall Job to Long Beach Firm
Los Angeles supervisors authorize a 6.975 million dollar contract to Tom E. Norcross Inc. of Long Beach to build underground parking and landscape the downtown LA Civic Center mall. Morrison-Knudsen of South Gate bids 5.74 million but withdraws after a clerical error. Norcross remains the winner via the County Employer Retirement Association. The project creates a two level reinforced concrete garage for 1272 cars, includes a fall out shelter capacity for 10,000, and connects to tunnels and the surrounding Cultural Center garage. Completion target is 620 days.
