UPI reports a head on collision in Ohio killed five, including four from one Hartford City, Indiana family. Thomas Earl Brannes, 31, Joyce Brannes, 27, and children Sheril Lynn, 6, Debra, 7, died. Arnold Miller, 22, of Tiffin, Ohio, also perished. two Brannes children Larry, 11, and Gary, 10, were critically injured. Police said two drivers died in the crash and two children were hospitalized in critical condition. Local authorities investigated the fatal wreck on a highway.

Psychiatrist Talks Down Man From 10-Story Newport Tower
Dr Richard Renneker a Mt Sinai psychiatrist dining near Bay Front restaurant helped stop a 24 year old Costa Mesa man Norman H Battey from leaping at the Via Lido Apts tower in Newport Beach. Police halted spotlights as Battey clung to the unfinished shaft then descended hand over hand to the ground. He was taken to Orange County Hospital for psychiatric observation after marital troubles. Renneker later quipped that his dinner was not ruined though it was cold.
