Edison spokesman says widespread blackouts unlikely here
Edison coastal area manager George Hanawalt assures that long lasting blackouts for Southern California Edison’s 3 million customers are highly unlikely. He notes emergency generation, interconnections with western utilities, and automatic load shedding. One incident on Sept 10, 1976 near Victorville affected about 20 million customers for under 10 minutes.

It said the incident happened after the helicopter attempted to flee and landed under warning fire from antiaircraft gunners. The U.N. Command asked for the wounded crewman and three bodies to be returned to the U.S. The Defense Department identified the four crew members aboard the helicopter as Sgt. Robert C. Haynes, Sgt. Ron Wells, CWO Glenn M. Schwanke and CWO Joseph A. Miles.
