Long Beach ECE program faces state funding cuts
Long Beach Unified School District plans to expand early childhood education for kindergarten to third grade, aiming for 10 to 20 schools next year. Robert Hart says state funds may drop about 233,808 below the 1,065,001 request, with total ECE funding now 363.2 million statewide. District expects about 831,102 from the state and may add six, possibly five, schools to reach 16. Details hinge on state allocations, with Muir and Webster likely continuing high-need slots.

Long Beach school and college budgets face revision
Revised school budgets submitted to the Long Beach Unified and Community College boards stay close to the originals. Supt. W. Odie Wright says they go to the county superintendent by July 20 and will be published in local papers in late month ahead of public hearings August 4. The district budget totals about 87.7 million with a tax rate near 4.34 per 100 of assessed value, slightly below last year. Long Beach City College maintains a 19.2 million budget with a 0.65 dollar per 10 assessment tax rate, down from 0.66, with final adjustments to follow before adoption.
