Cities face price spiral in Southern California public works

In Carson, bids for curb and sidewalk work surged 27 to 46 percent above estimates as contractors anticipate wage hikes and rush to meet four day start rules. City officials warn small projects may yield no bids, threatening needed street improvements.

Torrance delays final map as council backs redevelopment study
The Torrance City Council approved a 350 000 study as the first step toward a redevelopment district in the old downtown area. The plan envisions Lassen boundaries revised to include more commercial zones and exclude some high priced residences. The loan from the city’s general fund funds the study and potential future district, with public hearings likely narrowing the final project area.
