A Baltimore drug case closed with a marriage between 19 year old Kim McNabe and her codefendant Thomas Sommer Field. Judge Charles D. Hans witnessed the ceremony and suspended a four year sentence in exchange for life. Sommer Field placed on probation.
Mrs. Ann Moore of Chicago says a telephone caller who admits to being the hit and run truck driver that killed her 10 year old daughter Denise last March wants to meet to discuss dropping charges. She vows to continue seeking identity and punishment despite harassing calls. In a separate note, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton plan a Rome reunion next week per Burton's lawyer Aaron Frosch.
Los Angeles faces the prospect of rolling blackouts by next February if new fuel oil supplies are not secured. The DWP plans curtailment measures and may limit business hours and events, while compiling a legislative proposal to authorize energy use reductions. A 1974 cutback of 36 percent is projected, with a 65 percent rollback by 1976 without fuel.
Overland officials report a second day fire at the Military Personnel Record Center. Water access hampers efforts to reach the center of the six story building where the blaze persists. GSA officials say roof sections collapsed but sixth floor remains the main target. Senator Symington requests a defense committee report on cause and damage.
Nathaniel Worth and his wife Carol and their infant escaped unharmed after Worth says prayer with the armed escapee, Julius McDaniel also known as Jack Tippatt, led to a deputy pursuit ending with the gunman’s death by suicide. McDaniel had fled after a hand wound from a sheriff’s pursuit and was linked to past crimes including a Kern County murder during a 1972 robbery.
A $150 million Tropicana linked Strip resort will be built on 48 acres by Tropicana owner Deil Gustafson and Dominion Mortgage Corp on Coral Gables land bought for 1.4 million. The plan includes an indoor greyhound and whippet racing track. Separately, a man named McDaniel, after a dispute, fired a .38 revolver during police negotiations.
