Guard Reserve Cash Bonuses Pondered
The Pentagon is weighing special cash bonuses to lure young veterans into the National Guard and reserves. Officials won’t reveal amounts, but one official said such bonuses could cover a down payment on a car. The plan targets prior service personnel for enlistment and reenlistment, aiming to strengthen readiness as draft calls decline. Legislation would be needed, amid a push to rely more on Guard and Reserve forces as regular troops shrink.
