Welfare probe expansion eyed amid payroll irregularities
Sacramento officials signal the welfare inquiry may broaden after a five month probe found payroll discrepancies in about 08.6 percent of reviewed cases. The task force identified 24 federally funded anti poverty programs and 30 contractors with unreported earnings, totaling 15,811 across three quarters. An affidavit will be filed for a July 19 hearing to decide continuing use of the earnings safeguard system under the 1971 welfare reform act.
