Three Drown as Hurricane Hits Kansas
Atchison and Topeka suffered heavy damage as a storm with hurricane force winds swept northeast Kansas. Three people died two drowned in Atchison homes and a third in a flooding creek in Topeka, with one more man missing between Atchison and St. Joseph. In Atchison 3.07 inches of rain fell in 45 minutes, many buildings destroyed, water five to six feet deep. Dead include Mrs William Barthel and Charles Kennedy, 82, in Atchison.

Seven Die In Missouri Car Truck Crash Floods
A severe storm and flood sank a Kansas and Missouri area with a two day death toll that includes a 12 year old girl in Hannibal and several others. Red Car Hits Truck Killing Driver at Del Amo Crossing
A 51-year-old truck driver, Harry Keef of El Monte, was killed when a Metropolitan Transit Authority train struck his tractor trailer at the Del Amo Blvd crossing west of the Long Beach Freeway. Keef was pinned for over half an hour in the wreckage. One train passenger was seriously injured. Ethel H. Rainey, 38, of Watts, was taken to Compton’s Community Medical Building. Highway Patrol investigated.

Hermit killer shot and captured in New Mexico mountains
State police trapped Norman A. Foose, 47, in a mountain camp near Regina, NM, wounding and arresting him after he claimed he killed two children to curb world overpopulation. Foose, described as paranoid, had spent time in a mental hospital. A dawn assault by six troopers led by Sgt.
