Torrance Crash Kills 4 Hurts 4 In Two Car Collision

Four girls died and four others were seriously injured in a two car crash at 223rd Street and Vermont Avenue in Torrance on Wednesday night. Howard Smith, 42, driving Jeanette Smith’s car, and Cortine Smith, a passenger, were among the injured. The Rockham family witnessed the wreck as their car, not involved, carried shock victims.

Amnesia victim held with near $40 thousand in securities

A 64 year old woman, believed to be an amnesia victim, was found at the Greyhound Bus Depot in Long Beach with nearly $40,000 in negotiable securities. She gave the name Nellie Jones and claimed La Crosse as her home. Readily, she offered inconsistent details about her true identity and residence, and was booked in the city jail for routine investigation. The purse contained cash, travelers checks, cashier's checks, U S Treasury bonds, and an account book from Federal Savings & Loan. She wore a blue tweed coat, white hat, and carried a small suitcase and clothing hamper. Her height, weight, and appearance matched a description, but no such person listed in La Crosse or Long Beach directories.

A Lang Beach Municipal Airport event featured four of the world’s most beautiful women arriving aboard a Miss Universe TWA special Constellation. German grocer jailed for electrocution of wife in bathtub

In Nurnberg West Germany a grocer was sentenced to ten years for electrocuting his 28 year old wife while she washed in the tub. The court found the act deliberate and noted the husband James C Hagerty cited as secretary.

Supreme Court rules GI Girard to Japan for trial

The Supreme Court upheld the U S government's decision to deliver GI William S Girard to Japan for trial in the killing of four Japanese women. Chief Justice Warren wrote the unsigned opinion saying there is no constitutional barrier and executive and legislative branches determine the wisdom of the arrangement.
