Long Beach doctor seeks license return to aid ghetto residents
Dr. Charles B Baker, 62, convicted of prescribing narcotics, asks the court to restore his right to prescribe so he can work in Watts and other ghetto areas. His case has reached the state Supreme Court with multiple appeals and has influenced two legal precedents. He has faced a $90,000 fine lifted and a six month license suspension. Prosecutors may drop remaining charges, while Baker’s team seeks to rescind the prescription ban. Baker plans to return to medical work in underserved communities.
