Records show Albuquerque aviation pioneer James G. Oxnard died November 30 1987 leaving an estate of 7 928 289 dollars mostly in stocks and bonds. The will dated August 9 1961 provides 50 000 to the widow Edna Miller Oxnard 10 000 to each daughter Caroline Oxnard Hawn and stepson Stephen W Veitch. Oxnard founded Albuquerque's original airport now atop San dia Army Base.

Sub Threat by China Warns of Mobile Nuclear Sub Fleet

A Stanford Hoover Institution study argues Communist China may deploy 12 to 15 diesel powered submarines with nuclear missiles off Hawaii and near California within years. It notes China has not begun constructing a nuclear sub fleet but expects a future undersea force to deter U.S. cities. Spacecraft Despun for Radio Observation Mission

Explorer 38 has stopped spinning in space and is being despun by radio command at Goddard Space Flight Center. Weights were extended to slow rotation, then detached. Engineers will test experiments over six days before deploying antenna booms to monitor low frequency signals from the Milky Way and distant galaxies.

Four-year term for rifling of mails in San Francisco

Elton J. Norton, 31, a General Services Administration janitor at a San Francisco military postal facility, admitted rifling and stealing about 13 000 letters. He retrieved between 150 and 200 dollars, first claiming the mail sack was found then leading investigators to a locker with thousands of opened envelopes. Norton was sentenced to four years in prison and given a stern reprimand by Judge William T. Sweigert.

Woman 65 Lost Four Days Rescued on Mt Tamalpais

Beatrice Lilly Davis, 65, was rescued after four days lost on Mt. Tamalpais with her son Clifford Davis. They camped in a ravine for three nights as Davis grew too weak to move. A search party found her and she was taken to a Marin County hospital for observation.

Sniper injures 13 year old girl in Los Angeles County

A 13 year old girl, Christine B. Heacock of Hawthorne, was shot in the groin by a sniper while walking with a friend near 139th Street and Yukon Avenue around 1 p.m. She remained in good condition at Gardena Memorial Hospital. Deputies described the suspect as a dark haired man about 35 and the car occupants as two teen boys.

High Wind and Showers Hit Midwest and Pacific Northwest

United Press International reports scattered thundershowers across the nation with a week-long heat wave in the interior Pacific Northwest. Severe weather included a tornado north of Lubbock Texas and 92 mph winds with heavy rain in Hays Kansas. Des Moines saw 14 inches of rain in 10 minutes, Milligan Nebraska had a 60 minute three inch rain, and coastal areas benefited from ocean breezes. The interior Pacific Northwest endured temperatures over 100 degrees for the seventh straight day with Hanford Washington at 108 and Pendleton Oregon at 106.
