The Mint starts distributing 1776 1976 Bicentennial half dollars bearing Independence Hall on the reverse and John F. Kennedy on the obverse while quarters show a colonial drummer and silver dollars a Liberty Bell over the moon. Washington and Eisenhower remain on the other sides.

Banks face mixed views on economy and safety
Gallup polls show 80 percent say banks help little or not at all to aid the economy while 56 percent call banks very safe places to deposit money though 31 percent think more banks fail now than five years ago.
