NASA awards pact to study solar energy for earth use
NASA awarded a 197 400 contract to A D Little Inc Cambridge Mass for a six month study of feasibility of space based solar power plants. The plan envisions very large power plants in stationary orbits 22 200 miles high converting sunlight into electricity and beaming it to Earth by microwave beams for distribution. The project aims to determine if space produced energy can meet Earth power needs.

A new satellite to be launched July 2 aims to help farmers curb insects without pesticides, monitor pollution, and aid forest management.
