Deadlock Broken as Reagan tax bill advances
Sacramento Gov. Reagan’s $1 billion tax plan clears four months of committee stalemate as the Finance Committee sends the measure to the full Senate with broad support. The bill funds a $5.08 billion budget, reduces state debt, raises taxes across many sectors, and preserves major features while dropping direct property tax relief. The package faces a 27-vote Senate hurdle and later Assembly hearings as negotiators push toward funding schools and elderly tax relief while extending debt repayment this year.
