Governors pardon two clergy and 23 strikers in California incident
In San Diego and Sacramento the governor issued 23 pardons including eight strikers and two clergy members freed on bail after arrest at Di Giorgio farm in Borrego Springs. Cesar Chavez directed the National Farm Workers Association drive. Clergy Rev. Victor Saladini and Rev. Wayne C. Hartmeier say they were invited by workers. bail set for July 8. In Sacramento a first-degree murder conviction from 1935 in Los Angeles County yielded a pardon for Wendall W. Kelly.
